Joseph J. Despot

Joe is a 1950 pharmacy graduate of UBC. He began his career in community pharmacy with Cunningham Drug Stores in Victoria. In 1955 he joined Wm.S. Merrell Co. as a medical sales representative and was promoted to District Sales Manager for Western Canada in 1960. In 1962 he returned to community pharmacy and owned several pharmacies. An active member of the B.C. Pharmacists’ Society since 1968, he served as president in 1973 and was Chairman of the Third Party Committee when BCPHA negotiated its first agreement with B.C. Pharmacare. Joe has also been involved with CPhA serving as conference Chairman in 1978. He has been a member of the Board and served as President in 1979. Over the years he has served as Chairman of several CPhA committees and in 1986 was Chairman of the Trust Committee to the Council of Delegates. Joe has been very active in his community as a member and past president of the Saanich B.C. Chamber of Commerce. In 1985 he received from the Juan de Fuca BC Chamber of Commerce its ‘Citizen of the Year" Award. Joe Despot received the CPhA Meritorious Service Award in 1987.
