Garry Cruickshank

Garry has made a significant contribution to the use of informatics in the electronic transmission of information on patient care and prescription billing. He has served on the Canadian Electronic Drug Messaging Standard (CeRx) and the National e-Claims Standard (NeCST). He is also a member of the Canadian Board of HL7 - the standard for health care data exchange, which has links to the international linkage of information and the Standards Council of Canada. He has served in numerous positions in the Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) and CPhA, including President of OPA in 1992-93 and CPhA in 1998-99. He also chaired the CPhA led National Pharmacy Coalition on Managed Care and the Canadian Pharmacy Coalition on Pharmacare. He was the chair of the CPhA committee to organize the Centennial program for 2007. Garry is a graduate of the University of Manitoba and has practiced in both hospital and community pharmacy. He has served as chair of the Big V Pharmacy Computer Steering Committee. He has also worked with Ontario Drug Program Networks first claims transmission. More recently he has been a consultant to Health Canada’s First Nations and Inuit Health Branch and the Ontario Ministry of Health. He serves as a health informatics consultant with CPhA.
